This project focuses on how the student developed a modern table lamp based on the woodworking tradition of Channapatna district, Karnataka. This project helped the student gain a better understanding of craft culture, demand for wooden crafts, and current market trends. That is how the student was able to channel his ideas into the process, resulting in the creation of new forms and products that were previously inconceivable to the local artisans. By incorporating current technologies, the student was able to increase the value of the product while simultaneously increasing its demand. One of the major objectives of this project was to help the Channapatna craftspersons who are struggling for their livelihood. The demand for wooden toys has fallen enormously as it competes with mass-produced plastic goods. By transforming toys into more relatable objects, the project aspires to add to the richness of the collection, elevate the crafts, uplift the community, and preserve the long-standing heritage.
