India as a country has a long history of cultural traditions, Ayurveda and geographical factors affecting and influencing its food and eating culture. The eating habits of the average Indian have changed over a period of time. Globalization has led the world to become smaller and its impact can be seen in the change in lifestyle of millennials. India is a country that is growing and is making its presence felt on a global scale, allowing Indians to access and absorb more of different cultures and traditions that are present, at the same time giving back what Indian culture and culinary traditions have to offer. The standard items that are served on the plate include grains, plant produce, pulses, meat and dairy products, with the method of preparation and consumption being what segregates them. The factors that have affected segregation include diverse geography, population and religion.
Tableware is set on a table, served food with, and displayed food with. The range of tableware includes cutlery, glassware, serving dishes and other items which are used for practical purposes as well as decorative purposes. The main objective of this project is to develop a range of tableware through understanding the eating culture and culinary traditions of Indian society and how globalization has impacted it. The study will help her apprehend how culture, geography and economic status have affected the eating habits and practices of the current generation. She is also trying to highlight and bring focus on the transition of the eating habits that has happened over a period of time. The idea of this project is to produce the range through a studio setup. Through this, she will be able to acquire the knowledge of how a studio functions and how, as a designer, one can make efficient use of resources.
