Beyond the Mahua Tree
Memories are powerful. They shape our emotions and are an integral part of our understanding of the world. These memories give birth to stories and myths and they range from intriguing to inexplicable, fascinating to frightening. This film is about a young boy and a summer night at his native village. He feels overwhelmed by the many confusions and anxieties of growing up. He is constantly reminded that he is too old to be doing some activities, while being too young for others. He decides to get away from all the confusion and finds himself in a bizarre situation. The kid is oblivious to the consequences of his actions at first, but gets increasingly aware of the same. The last moments teach the kid some things about himself. The film depicts memories of an oraon tribal kid, drawing stories from many experiences. It is a slice of life film with a hint of mystery.
