Gracious living is the mission statement for the Kohler brand. The final design is a representation of that mission. The project aimed at finding new meanings and associations in grooming within the bathroom and enhancing the entire experience. The idea was to define future possibilities in grooming-led lavatory spaces that allow multifunctionality, storage, and aesthetically design the centre-piece of the bathroom. Creative materials like ceramic, wood, glass, and plastic were explored to provide flexibility to the design. Ergonomics, comfort, and manufacturability being the key aspects integrating the bathroom environment and performing the fundamental function of personal cleanliness. The student studied every grooming ritual to identify challenges and ideate upon the insights. The brief was to design a lavatory for grooming, further developing it into a hygiene lavatory in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
