Commercial Book Design
This project aimed at designing three books and two book covers, and the project focused on the design of the three books and evolved into a study of publication design in different contexts. The first book was ‘The Little Book of Everything’ by Ruskin Bond, an anthology of simple everyday thoughts and sayings. It was the second instalment of Penguin’s ‘Little Book’ series, consisting of hand-lettered quotes. The second book was ‘My Genius Lunch Box’ by Uma Raghuraman, a fun cookbook for parents to prepare interesting and healthy meals for their school going kids. It included fifty original recipes and photographs by the author. The third book was ‘Still Life’ by Anoushka Khan, a heart-wrenching graphic novel dealing with the emotions of love and loss, containing full-page artworks created by the author. Two book covers were designed, including a non-fiction historical travelogue and a whimsical children’s book. This project broadened the student's understanding of the book design process and the role graphic design plays in bringing a book to life and ensuring that it sells.
