The student has put in a humble effort to create a training module for Chhau dance which will be primarily used at JICD by staff members and faculty. India has a rich heritage of performing arts, Chhau being one of them. As part of this project, three training modules are created. The first training module named C2 spreads over 2 weeks aiming to create a broader understanding of cultural practices prevailing within a community and aids to form a base to understand performing arts in the context of cultural practices. The second module named C5 is a week-based module that emphasizes learning the elements associated with Chhau dance and also how to use these elements to express the craft. Lastly, C7, a week-long module focuses on the objective to study storytelling traditions and understand their narrative structures.
As part of this project, the student recorded dance performances and liaised with artisans to work on details such as dresses, mask making, etc. The plan to record dance performances included testing the camera, trying camera placements, trail rounds, etc. before the final recordings were done and edited.
