This project entailed the development of home furnishings fabric collections inspired by 'Transitional Infusion'. The fusing of traditional design into a contemporary-modern style to form a new style is called 'Transitional Design'. Transitional style, also known as 'Updated classics', strikes a balance between the formal and warmth feel of traditional décor and the cooler, more removed look of contemporary interiors. In this manner, the transitional design is intended to be both timeless and gender neutral. Overall, the main principle of transitional style is to focus on minimalism that is fresh and clean. As a result, transitional textiles feature lots of solids. Patterns, when used, are more graphic and colour palettes are very subtle, with an emphasis on neutrals and monochromatic schemes.
This project also highlighted the understanding of the design practices in an export house within their time limitations, design process, production constraints, quality control, and the nature of the job. Through this project, primary and secondary research was conducted to get a better understanding of the market, current trends, materials, client requirements, and design standards. The research provided several concepts for the three projects based on design briefs. Each series has its own theme, identity, style, and limits based on current trends, market demands, and production capabilities. This was used as a base to create conceptual artwork using mood boards to establish a style of expression for each project.
