The project negotiates various manifestations of India’s connection with the former USSR while tapping into a fictional world of realised and unrealised dreams, thereby creating the world of a fictional character—Svetlana. Their identity is rooted in various real and imagined, fragmented instances. The instances lie in an imagined, loosely drawn framework encompassing social (re)arrangements, and the memories of certain historical events within the context of the Indo-Soviet relationship, invoking nostalgia for the former Eastern Bloc to imagine a possible utopia. The world lies in a socio-technical landscape, drawing inspiration from the early works of Hindi author Rahul Sankrityayan.
