This project delves into the application of stainless steel in the design of furniture for use in living spaces, primarily, in Indian homes. The project is an attempt to bring about a contrast of warm and cool through the application of thread-work on stainless steel fabric. Inspiration for the furniture collection takes the form of abstract qualities that one usually associates with natural fabrics; namely, free-flowing, multidimensional, visually light, breathable, airy, organic, and warm. Following the establishment of the project brief, material and craft-based exploration was done using different transmissive components of steel and traditional crafts of needlework. The final outcome was the 'Gulmohar Chair' which evoked feelings of warmth and comfort. Additionally, the idea of merging function with art led to the designing the ‘Lunar Coffee Table'.
