The aim of this project was to design a new generation, mid-range forklift for Godrej Material Handling. With time, different varieties of forklift trucks were introduced, helping the customers to choose from the weight of the load to be lifted, the height of the lift, the small aisle width application, and the outdoor purpose. In future, anticipatory logistics based on customer purchase behaviour would play a major role in warehousing management system. It will help in deciding which products have to be kept in a warehouse demographically. Non-running items could be avoided from piling up in warehouses in strategic locations. With saturation of space in metros, compact forklifts are needed for heavy duty usage for indoor and outdoor purposes. The scope of the project involves understanding the present scenario of forklifts and identifying the problems faced by the operator. It also involves user study, upcoming trends and technology in the warehousing industry, global competitors, and future needs.
