The graduation project sought to explore diversity in picture books in India, with a special focus on the Northeast of India. The deliverable for the project was a picture book for Pratham books. The objective of this project was to contribute to the representation of the Northeast region in Indian children’s picture books by creating engaging content for children, which represents the reality of a diverse society they live in, and to imbibe empathy and acceptance. The project relied heavily on readings and research about picture books and diversity. This included research papers, articles and literature on the concerned subject. The outcome was a picture book based in Nagaland with mischief as the theme. The book sought to tell a story with a setting that could make readers from the region seek ownership of the book by seeing themselves in the book.
