This project examines the materiality of denim in two ways. The first collection called ‘Jean Americana’ revisits the historicity of the material to develop denim looks for the working youth of American Society, paying homage to the retro denim sensibilities. The second collection called ‘Deflect’ is designed to promote upcycling of the denim material and reducing waste that ends up in landfills by developing experimental, bold products from various denim scraps discarded at various stages of production. It advocates for re-examination of the familiar to create a better future.
