Ekta worked on her graduation project with AVH Associates, worldwide exporters of home furnishing products. An exploratory approach was adopted in terms of concept generation, textures and forms after understanding the operations, product range, design identity and export trends of the company. The initial phase of the project involved getting familiarized with the organization and its infrastructure, products and buyers as well as analyzing the export market trends in the industry.
Understanding sampling, costing and production allowed Ekta to take charge and create well-coordinated creations using techniques such as printing, embroidery, surface manipulation and stitching. She learnt the fundamentals of building a collection in addition to gaining in-depth knowledge of international design sensibilities. Three home furnishing collections for international markets were crafted, including a range of coordinated cushion covers with table runners and placemats for the American market and two design collections for the Heimtextil 2018 fair held in Germany.
