My design goal was to investigate the application of activity-based learning in the Indian context. This included gaining an understanding of instructional practices, while scrutinizing the problems related to the hands-on learning experience within the current scenario. I had to tackle these issues by introducing new forms of mediation to the existing system, in order to improve the efficiency of delivery and achievement of the desired outcome.
The project attempted to target employees of the company’s content team as well as children between the age group of 10-14 years. It also aimed to indirectly affect teachers and schools who used the prescribed method. I started the project with a review of literary works on education and field studies. This was followed by identifying problems and possibilities within the scope of the project. Within the design process, the selected domain was analyzed using instructional design theories along with new media ones. The outcome of the project was the emergence of a kit-material analysis process that derives manipulations and achieves modularity. In order to test the efficiency outcome, the developed prototypes were finally implemented in schools.
The project gave me scope for immense learning and unrestricted freedom for exploration and engagement with people having a similar mindset. It satisfied my interest to experiment within the field of education, using my design skill-set.
