My diploma project involved designing a mobile application for the Indian market, one that would not only provide a solution for users’ needs but also be profitable.
The process commenced with the identification of the nature of the relationship users have with their mobile-phones and what they really depend on their phones for. Then domain research was conducted on telecom, market, operators, mobile vendors, value-added services, app stores and so on, all within the Indian context.
From the research, I concluded that designing a utility application for mobiles, with an eye for m- commerce would best serve the organization’s goals in terms of earning profits and fulfilling the needs of the Indian people. After brainstorming, an application for travel booking was selected for conceptualization.
Travel, by its very nature, is mobile. And since the internet is now easily accessible via mobile-phones, users are becoming increasingly dependent on their phones to carry out their daily chores on-the-go. The project provided users with a mobile application which targeted their travel needs in India by enabling them to book their travel tickets ‘anytime, anywhere’.
I learnt how to balance the technical constraints and the design solution, and work with the requirements of the organization, while maintaining the quality of the final product. |
