Keywords Meeting experience Collaboration 3D Multimodal interfaces |
The brief for my project was to define a future collaboration space using 3D and multimodal interfaces. Currently, in work environments, while it is natural to collaborate and interact with collocated teams, a lot of information is lost in conventional collaboration systems.
The project aimed to understand the collaboration ecosystems to retain maximum information. The advent of large screens and natural interactions such as gestures and touch gave me opportunity to create a meaningful, immersive and rich collaborative space. The Loop defines a collaborative space, where technology and the use of multimodal interaction will provide richer experience and bring collaboration to a new level, where teams can work more productively.
My research aimed to understand the activities at a meeting or in a col¬laboration environment. “Face-to-face” meetings and usage of multiple devices and technology in collaboration were mainly covered. The study comprised two parts: The first was the fly-on-the-wall (shadowing), where I attended various meetings and observed the set-up, content, speakers, their gestures, the mode of communication, white board, presentation, etc. The second comprised in-depth interviews (after meeting) where “one-on-one” sessions were held with the participants about the content of the meetings, technology, and objects used during the meeting.
Though the majority of the target audience did not require 3D, they would still need multimodal interaction daily in order to enhance their meeting experience. The designed interface takes care of problems faced in current meeting environments, and tries to leap into the future by using natural interfaces and interactions.
I now realize that every phase in the design process is dependent on the previous one. I have also learnt how to manage time efficiently and work as part of a team. |
