I completed my project with TEXTRADE INTERNATIONAL LTD. a well known export house in home furnishings in Mumbai.
I started with detailed and relevant information collection, which would facilitate my designs in evolving into new products and devoted two weeks to studying the existing framework within their company, their product range and their collections of the previous eight years. In addition, I visited their factories and their showrooms to understand their colors, patterns, styles and production processes. After a complete overview of the company and its’ processes and the state of its art machines for embroidery, quilting, pleating, laser cutting and stone hot fixing machines, I commenced my designing project.
The final outcomes of the project were four bedding collections three window collections; thirteen cushion collections and three table linen collections. My products were well appreciated at the MARKET WEEK-USA and also at HEIMTEXTIL – GERMANY.
The experience also gave me first hand knowledge and experience on valuable ethics in terms of understanding a company’s procedures, the chance of working as part of a talented team, as well as getting in-depth understanding of the inter-relatedness and the cohesive nature of all the other departments. I also learned how to work under established guidelines and conform to pre-existing theme boards influenced by the mass export market, which was very different from the independent creative conceptualization process in the classroom.
This opportunity allowed me to cultivate a global mindset by exposing me to the tastes, markets and users of different countries and markets. |
