My project focused on inspiring innovative learning environment through experience design. I worked with the Agastya International Foundation, an NGO that works in the area of non formal education for rural children.
My approach was to create an environment that would stimulate the child’s imagination and creativity and introduce them to the principles of science in a way where they would question pre-conceived theories and superstitions.
On the basis of my initial exploratory visit to the foundation and resulting observations, I finalized my scope of work. The latter phase, the design process, focused on the goal and vision of the organisation and then how that would translate into a physical environment.
Among some of my design deliverables were 1. service design touch points – to engage the teachers and children, I designed props for visual representation of principles, there are holographic stickers on the walls. 2. Partial vistas and partitions - in walls in the space to create an environment of mystery where certain elements can only be discovered after going behind the walls. I also proposed layers of lighting within textured materials to create the warmth of a cave-like environment and mystery. I also designed an outdoor science theme park named ‘The Discovery Park.’
The children will go on a journey of discovering the power and magic of creative thinking and of looking for cause and effects. This will happen through understanding principles of science and math through models, analogies and associations. The takeaway will be a blend of curiosity and adventure spurred by riddles, questions and various such triggers. |
