Today, the shopping experience is about attracting and tempting new customers with more attractive, rich and contemporary designs while inspiring loyalty among existing customers.
Inspired by my inclination towards working with children, I decided to merge my interest with my knowledge of architecture. My project focused on designing a childrens’ retail store with interactive play spaces. I have always been interested in concepts of child psychology and play behavior and integrated these fields as well into my experiential design concept for a play area.
The deliverables included the design concept for an exclusive retail store for kids (age 2 -11 years); developing a corporate identity for the retail store through logo design, store image and appeal and its color graphics; developing a generic store layout; developing a customized system for the display of the product (in terms of a complete building layout, individual floors, wall units, display units, color graphics in the interior, storage systems, cash counter, information counter, front window display, movement display furniture). I also designed interactive play zones and a multiple activity floor for kids.
On completion, my project, in addition to answering certain questions, stimulated more questions for exploration . This experience gave me a chance to hone a variety of skills in market analysis, field research, ergonomics, human psyche, graphics and then integrate all these into a design creation. In industry, one is designing for the client, so I acquired experience in designing within the framework of certain prescribed specifications.
My project has expanded my knowledge and expertise in experiential design. |
