My project was to develop two collections of jacquard designs for upholstery chairs and for curtains respectively. The outcome was aimed at the domestic market, but at a niche clientele. The first project was supposed to be the experimental one while the other had to relate strongly to Seasons’ identity.
Seasons Home Furnishing Pvt. Ltd., produces and retails home furnishings and lifestyle products in the textile sector. Its in-house production is jacquard fabrics for furnishing and upholstery. My project of six months was an opportunity to work in the industry, and while being profitable for the company, also to add positive improvement to my designing and working abilities.
The diploma project gave me insight and strength to work with an industry and become an actively useful part of it with upgradation in my present skills and knowledge. It was a challenge to adjust to a different working style, go through different stages of decision-making and still hold on to and improve upon my originality. I had to involve my learning and capabilities using industrial resources, under project outlines, to come up with some useful, creative and productive designs. I came to know what the real world was and understand the industry by being a part of it.
The diploma project gave me strength to work with an industry and become an active part of it with up gradation in my present skills and knowledge. I felt that it is an ongoing and a give and take process which can always be improved. It developed a lot of patience in me, an ability to praise, to get work done and to accept the wrongs and rights of my work. I learnt to take instant decisions, as well as to work in constraints, and, significantly, to work with a team.
