Using photography as a means of visual communication, this project investigates the aspect of untouchability and discrimination by documenting the lives of Dalits in the villages in Gujarat. It attempts to point out that racial discrimination is a nationwide phenomenon. Thorough research and study was done on the historical aspects of caste system, its origin and evolution in India and world. The images provide a peek into the daily lives of people employed in mortuaries and those conducting postmortems in hospitals. Their portraits, close ups and tools used by them in autopsy paint a vivid picture in our minds of an almost alien world, a world which we would rather deny acknowledgement of.
