The contemporary kitchen has come a long way from its traditional cousin. With the passage of time, the concept of a kitchen as a personal space is fast taking shape among the trendy youth. Yet the traditional context of the kitchen remains un-debated. Keeping this in mind, the challenge of the project was to design a modular high-end kitchen system by uniquely fusing the elements of old and new trends. Special attention was given to ergonomics and anthropometrics so as to customise the kitchen area for the average Indian. Research and study was conducted into traditional cooking styles and user preferences, which helped design an island kitchen with elements like a tandoor and a low smoke chulha complete with a smoke vent.
