Due to the rise of unions since the communist party came into force in 1957 in Kerala, a lot of people left to find new avenues and opportunities for growth. One of those opportunities was for health professionals in Gulf countries, especially nurses. 40 years later, communal bias on this migration pattern is steadily eroding though this was all how it began. This project aims to understand their migratory patterns and the current context of its impact on society. The images discuss their life away from home, the change of status and the return of the ‘nurse’ back to her place in Kerala.
