The project focused on solar energy harvesting and storage in textiles, to design a prototype, for the healthcare sector using off-the-shelf technology – a system integrating electronics and apparel into one single element. Developments in the field of nano-deposition and electrolysis should make it possible to construct solar cells and batteries on filament level (textile threads). The solar energy storage capability developed in woven threads will give textiles a completely new function with huge potential. Textiles with their own electric power banks will change the way we experience textiles and apparel in the future. The final prototype developed was a uniform for a nurse integrating solar cell technology, with smartphone charging capability.
