This six-month-long graduation project was carried out specifically for the “SPUN” sub-brand of Welspun India Ltd., a Mumbai-based company. SPUN is a well-known home textile brand that operates in Mumbai, Maharashtra and has its manufacturing facility in Anjar, located in the Kutch district of Gujarat. This brand stands out for its distinctive goal of empowering women in the Kutch region and revitalizing traditional Indian arts and crafts.
SPUN, recognizing the potential of the Indian market, sought to establish its own brand that would cater to the needs of consumers in the country. Their product range included a diverse array of items such as cushions, quilts, table linen, and rugs. By launching their brand in India, SPUN aimed to provide high-quality home textile products that would resonate with the preferences and tastes of the Indian audience.
The primary objective of this project is to create and produce two hand crafted collections by collaborating with artisans from the Kutch region in Gujarat. The project’s objective was to design specifically for the domestic market, for brand SPUN. The main emphasis was placed on achieving a contemporary aesthetic for the final products by skillfully incorporating traditional arts and crafts techniques. By blending the old with the new, the project aimed to offer a unique and visually appealing range of products that would captivate the target audience and align with SPUN’s brand identity.
As a result of the project, two exquisite collections of handcrafted home textile articles, including rugs, cushions, and quilts, were successfully developed in collaboration with the craft clusters of Kutch, Gujarat. These collections were specifically curated for the Indian market under the renowned brand, SPUN. The project also involved the documentation of the entire process to share the valuable insights and experiences gained during the journey of creating these products.
