Sysnopsis

The project started with an inquiry “Can we replace school textbooks with Board Games?” This inquiry turned into a more narrowed-down brief after visiting the learning centers by the Klorofeel Foundation in Bissamucttak district, Orissa. The project attempts to formulate alternative pedagogy methods with play and storytelling at its center. Concepts from early learning methodologies and combined with the game design principles to arrive at Five Board Games that teach Mathematics and Environmental Science for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade NCERT curriculum.

For this project, a new design methodology was formed that systemically incorporates the learning objectives in a board game format. The outcome of the project was five learning based Board Games incorporating Mathematics and Environmental Science concepts from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade NCERT curriculum. The Board Games are created with multiple difficulty levels in order to accommodate the increasing learning curve of students as they start getting efficient at basic concepts. Effort to incorporate these Board Games within Orissa government school curriculum as an alternative learning aid are being carried out by the Klorofeel Foundation at the moment.
