The project is done for Studio Padmaja, a clothing and textile brand working with natural materials and handcrafted techniques. It was divided into three collections following a detailed study of the brand, techniques and the market. The first collection aims to expand the brand’s limited range of contemporary handwoven saris being developed with WomenWeave in Maheshwar using handspun cotton and mulberry silk in different counts and plys. It explores various patterns, textures and colors in experimental sari layouts apart from focusing on comfort and versatility in usage. The second project presents a new visual language as an extension to the brand's range of patchwork jackets upcycled from post-production waste using surface design techniques based on individual color stories. The last project is an attempt on developing striped handwoven yardages offering multiple placement options for apparel. The entire project aims at adding value to the brand by further building its product ranges, probing different possibilities associated with techniques, materials and visual aesthetics.
