Twist: Geometry Inspired Furniture

Sayee M Pathak

P Rama Krishna Rao

The project was about designing furniture as a functional art piece, exploring the connections and interactions between users and their furniture and how an artifact could be a functional product. Given the nature of the questions, it was necessary for Sayee to explore works by designers across the globe. Her research covered design methodologies exploring the significance of factors in the usage of furniture. Geometry was taken as inspiration to develop forms for the final collection.
Analyzing the present furniture industry helped Sayee to develop formal frameworks of ideas and products. She realized that it was essential to understand how production methods affect the design field. Through the history of furniture design, the look and feel of advanced production methods have shaped the progression of the process. This has added to the physical, psychological as well as ecological aspects of products and human life.
