Contemporary Coalesce: A Collection of Home Furnishings

Arushi Sidhwani

Shafique Afzal

For her degree project, Arushi worked with Noorjehan Exports LLP, an established manufacturer of home furnishings and textile accessories. Her brief was to develop five collections for distinguished clients. A vibrant range called ‘Koyari’ celebrated floral ornamentation and bold contrasting colors while ‘Ashen-Ebon’ had monochrome, doodle-like patterns for a trendy look. ‘Folk-Frenzy,’ inspired by folk, included embellished embroideries on coordinating cushions and tableware while the elegant ‘Cadence’ had artistic, hand-painted textures and Ombre dyes. The fifth collection ‘Indigo-summer’ used tie and dye surfaces for cushions, quilts and tableware.
It was challenging for Arushi to develop collections with constant themes but a unique edge over other exporters. Her interaction with each department made this experience more holistic by understanding basic cost parameters with the merchandising department, improvement in communication skills with marketing, working hands-on in the sampling department and aiding the IT department with the company website and social accounts.
