The project brief was to develop a bridal occasion collection for women for the upcoming AW18/19, for Heritage’s women’s wear brand Rangoli. The scope included developing of a range of high end designer wear for bridal occasions while keeping in mind key directions like print, color and silhouette while designing the collection. The fabric to be used was Banarasi raw silk or Dupioni silk, while keeping the essence and aesthetic of the brand intact.
The design inspiration came from a Mughal garden. The collection represented a princess’ garden and the celebration of her relationship with the flowers in her life. With glamorous overlays and ecstatic opulence, the designs recaptured Mughal aesthetics with exemplary rendition. Botanical floral motifs were inspired from water color paintings and illustrations of Mughal flowers and presented in a contemporary way. The collection incorporated powerful contemporary elements, alluding symmetry and balance, to ultimately create cohesive compositions.
