The Urban Ease: Creating AW17/18 and SS Womenswear Collection for Caravan

Parul Suthar

Sonal Chauhan

Through her project with Caravan Crafts, Bengaluru, Parul had to identify gaps in their current offering, understand customer needs and create a range of apparel for women, for their upcoming season. She also had to impart hand embroidery training to the craft cluster of Mysore and develop the surface embroidery with artisans. The design process started with understanding the brand and product portfolio along with interaction with artisans, resulting in the creation of the ‘Urban Ease’ collection.

The collection was designed and developed with the help of inferences from the WGSN forecast study and included styles that reflected the SS18 Slow Future trend theme. Pastel shades with chalky tints were used to bring a sophisticated tonality to classic and timeless silhouettes. Organic and urban simplicity were combined through techniques of Mangalgiri, tie-dye Chanderi fabric and hand embroidery in the range. The handcrafted artistic simplicity of the collection was reflected by the use of minimal surface embroidery.
