The project was undertaken by Harshavardhan to analyze the scope of stitched clothing at Aranya Natural and to make a collection using both machine and hands. A fresh collection of drapes was also designed for the sponsor. He went through extensive market research to identify the need for a focus segment by studying various surface techniques. History of clothing, basic garment construction, dyeing and hand sewing techniques were understood along with sale experimentation through store visits and pop-up sales.
Hashavardhan worked on strengthening the brand identity by designing mood boards. Silhouette directions were explored and a final range was developed followed by test fits. He designed three collections inspired by the landscapes of Munnar, ‘Mudrana’- a machine stitched apparel range using natural dye, ‘Hastha’- a hand stitched sustainable range and ‘Palla’- a collection of dupattas and sarees. The role reversal of teaching certain techniques to the artisans was a learning experience for him as well.
