Jharokha: Collection of Home Furnishing Fabrics

Sandip Kumar Jaiswal

Sucharita Beniwal

For his project with R R Decor, a home furnishing company focusing on curtain fabrics, Sandip’s brief was to generate collections of fabrics and curtains based on Mughal and Persian themes, ensuring production friendly designs and concepts. The project started with market study of different brands to understand their design patterns and placement. Competitor store visits helped understand every aspect of design and concept behind range development. Two collections were designed and developed.
The first collection was inspired by the Mughal era with a contemporary twist. The curtains in this collection had small floral motifs with a subtle and strong color palette, using three different techniques like digital printing, screen printing and embroidery. The second collection which was inspired by Persian floral and geometric patterns had a variety of designs from single motifs to all-over designs, with a fresh and soothing color palette, detailed intricacy and silhouettes.
