Through her graduation project with a non-profit organization in Bihar, Akanksha explored the possibilities of promoting Bihar art and crafts and developing a range of products for the tourists of Bodh Gaya. Bodh Gaya is an international tourist and pilgrimage destination in Bihar and the market has a great opportunity to promote local handicrafts which are lesser known, like the Manjusha paintings on the verge of extinction, like the Patna Kalam paintings.
Akanksha discovered that rural Bihar was filled with artists full of stories, that made them different from the plastic world around them. Along with the techniques of art and craft, she also learnt about the challenges faced by them. Market research at Bodh Gaya regarding Bihar art and craft was followed by in-depth study of the selected products and concepts were generated. The project created multiple opportunities to help realize the beauty
and potential of the crafts of Bihar.
