In collaboration with AO Smith, this project focuses on reimagining horizontal water heaters for modern Indian homes, shifting them from purely functional appliances to integrated elements of bathroom interiors. The study began with an analysis of the market landscape and user expectations in cities like Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad. Research revealed challenges with installation and servicing, alongside a preference for appliances that complement interior aesthetics. Building on these findings, the project identified opportunities to improve efficiency, simplify interfaces, and refine form factors. Concepts were iterated through prototyping to balance technical feasibility with the evolving aspirations of Indian households. The final design direction ensures the heaters are both user-friendly and visually harmonized with contemporary spaces. Ultimately, the project defines how utilitarian products can evolve through thoughtful design. By focusing on both performance and aesthetic integration, the work marks a significant step forward in the design evolution of domestic water heating appliances.
