My graduation project with Mulberry Silks, a Bangalore-based luxury home textiles export house, was a transformative experience at NID. Working on client-centric design, I developed three collections for international markets, including the UK, France, USA, Germany, and Italy. Each collection from jacquard, embroidery, prints, and velvets to upholstery and wall coverings followed a concept to execution approach: researching client profiles, creating moodboards, exploring techniques, and iterating digitally and by hand. Collaborating with weaving, printing, and embroidery technicians honed my understanding of technical constraints, cost, repeat sizes, and feasibility. A highlight was seeing my first collection showcased at Proposte, Italy, validating my design sensibility globally. This project sharpened adaptability, problem solving, and holistic thinking, teaching me that design is not just creative expression but a process interwoven with client expectations, market trends, and cultural nuances bridging the gap between student work and professional practice in luxury home textiles.
