This project involved designing two exhibitions for the Palm-Leaf Manuscript Profiling Initiative (PLMPI), an interdisciplinary research collaboration spanning humanities, material sciences, and digital technologies. The exhibitions aimed to translate PLMPI’s complex, ongoing research into an accessible and engaging format for diverse audiences.
As the exhibition designer, I worked closely with researchers to understand the project’s scope and collaborations, developing a curatorial framework and graphic language suited to both content and context. A key challenge was exhibiting a process rather than finished outcomes, with limited physical artefacts or conclusions. This was addressed by situating PLMPI within the broader history of palm-leaf manuscripts in South India, using familiar references to anchor understanding. The exhibitions functioned as outreach tools, highlighting manuscript research as material practice and demonstrating how exhibition design can bridge academic research and public engagement.
