With road accidents in India rising, fatigue induced driving errors are a major concern, particularly for long haul and corporate drivers. Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS) are vital for improving road safety by detecting drowsiness and issuing timely alerts. However, many existing systems are costly, complex, or not tailored to Indian drivers. Under Bosch’s RideBuddy project, this initiative focused on redesigning a DMS device to enhance user experience and industrial design without altering hardware. Efforts prioritized making the device compact, ergonomic, and visually harmonious with Indian vehicle interiors. Key explorations included CMF (Color, Material, Finish) options, streamlined installation, and packaging. A speculative mobile application extended the DMS experience with alert logs, trip tracking, break point suggestions, and driver profiles. By applying design for safety principles, this product design project demonstrates how thoughtful industrial design and user centered design can enhance both usability and road safety, offering scalable solutions for personal and commercial vehicles.
