India, the ‘Diabetes Capital of the World,’ faces a public health crisis with over 77 million living with Type 2 diabetes and 25 million pre-diabetic, many unaware of their condition. Early symptoms and treatment adherence are often ignored, worsening health outcomes. This project, in collaboration with UTSAAH Lab and Open MedLabs, explores wearable and accessory-based solutions that integrate into daily life to support diabetes management. Recognizing the vital role of caregivers—including spouses, children, and relatives—the project develops a research framework to identify intervention opportunities and an evaluation framework to assess their effectiveness across diverse user segments. By combining insights from user research and structured evaluation, the study aims to improve health management, raise awareness, and address social perceptions associated with diabetes care. The outcome contributes to creating a more supportive, inclusive, and practical approach for individuals managing the condition in everyday contexts.
