SHRAVYA MISHRA
Mr. Rishi Singhal
Guru Ram Rai Darbar Sahib, known as Jhanda Sahib, is a cultural and architectural landmark in Dehradun, blending Mughal, Sikh, and Pahari styles. Founded by the eldest son of the 7th Sikh Guru, the complex holds profound historical and religious significance. This project documents the daily life, rituals, and unique art forms, including frescoes and Islamic calligraphy, at the Darbar Sahib. Through extensive research, field studies, and interviews, the work explores the site's role as a pilgrimage centre for the Ramraiya sect and its significance to the local community. The photography traces the sect's roots back to Punjab, providing a deeper understanding of its cultural evolution and current role in Dehradun's social fabric. By capturing the site's unique architectural layout and vibrant religious practices, the project preserves a fading history. Ultimately, it highlights the Darbar Sahib as an essential tourist and spiritual destination, embodying a rare intersection of diverse regional influences.
