This graduation project focuses on redesigning Fleet Maintenance Operations (MX) for Walmart, one of the world’s largest logistics networks. As Walmart’s fleet and supply chain continue to scale, operational challenges such as unplanned vehicle downtime, inventory bottlenecks, inefficient maintenance scheduling, and driver idle time disrupt deliveries and impact costs and customer satisfaction. Using a research-driven, human-centered design approach, the project studied user journeys and systemic inefficiencies across key roles, including Area Managers, Technicians, Maintenance Planners, and Drivers. Insights from immersive field observations, stakeholder interviews, and competitor analysis informed the reframing of problems into design opportunities. The proposed solution, MX, is an integrated digital service ecosystem that enables proactive maintenance scheduling, real-time inventory visibility, seamless coordination, and data-informed decision-making. Leveraging telematics, automation, and intuitive interfaces, MX reduces maintenance downtime from a full day to approximately four hours, improving efficiency, resilience, and clarity across fleet operations.
