Khatta Meetha is a 2D animated short film that follows an evening in the life of Ambar, a wheelchair user, whose small domestic decision sets off an emotional and psychological journey. What begins as a relatable family moment sharing golgappas in the living room quickly unfolds into a quiet conflict between Ambar and his wife, Bhumi. In an effort to make amends, Ambar sets out alone on his wheelchair bike, only to find himself stuck at a waterlogged speed breaker. This physical obstacle becomes a metaphor for his deeper fears of inadequacy, isolation, and the stigma of disability. The film uses surreal visual language to externalise Ambar’s inner world, transforming the khatta meetha tamarind water into a symbolic space of anxiety. It seeks to create space for more nuanced, emotionally honest portrayals of disabled lives, particularly within the Indian context, where dignity, frustration, humour, and vulnerability can coexist.
