'Choriyanam' is a village where people are not allowed to scratch their backs. It is because they find the activity disgusting. So, if anyone breaks this rule, they are kicked out of the village. Therefore, the villagers hire a person to scratch their backs for them. He is called the back-scratcher. Currently, Madhu naive young man, is the only back-scratcher remaining in the village. He has to go around the village every day and scratch people's backs. All men from Madhu's clan have been working as back-scratchers for generations. He was passed on the job after the untimely death of his father. After a few years of reluctantly working this demeaning job, Madhu is tired and decides to try for other jobs. In doing so he is faced with certain harsh realities existing in his society. The story follows with Madhu’s persistent effort to get out of the job he hates.
