This project explores Hyderabad’s iconic rocky landscape as a source of narrative and form for a luxury furniture collection. Developed in collaboration with Studio Chisel, the project responds to the studio’s aspiration to move beyond affordable functional products and establish a presence in the luxury segment through statement furniture rooted in storytelling and craftsmanship. Hyderabad’s ancient rock formations, shaped over millions of years, define the city’s unique geography and cultural identity, yet face increasing threats due to rapid urbanisation. The project translates the raw textures, organic forms, and enduring narratives of these geological structures into contemporary furniture pieces. The design process involved an in-depth study of rock formations, their visual language, and symbolic value, which informed the form, materiality, and aesthetic expression of the collection. The resulting pieces function as functional art, combining luxury, narrative design, and cultural context while fostering awareness and appreciation of Hyderabad’s endangered natural heritage.
