The Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF), South Asia’s oldest and largest festival for non-feature films, is organised by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India. For its 2024 edition, this project focused on scenography and visual design to move beyond the festival as a mere event and shape it as an immersive narrative experience.

Anchored in the theme “People and Their Stories,” the design approach treated space as a primary medium for engagement. Through spatial design, scenography, installations, publications, and integrated media, the festival environment was crafted to echo the diversity of documentary, short fiction, and animation showcased at MIFF. The project aimed to create cohesive storytelling across venues while supporting dialogue, exchange, and reflection among filmmakers and audiences. By foregrounding overlooked narratives and human experiences, the design reinforced MIFF’s role as a platform for authentic, socially resonant cinema.
