This project, developed in collaboration with H & R Johnson, a leading tile manufacturer, aims to conceptualize and design a curated series of versatile and contemporary tile collections. The objective is to elevate conventional surface applications into engaging spatial experiences that are visually compelling, modular, and suitable for diverse interior contexts. The project focuses on surface aesthetics, tactile qualities, modular pattern systems, and colour stories aligned with contemporary design sensibilities. The design process involved extensive research into global tile trends, user behaviour, cultural references, and market and competitor analysis. Prototypes were developed at H & R Johnson’s production facilities in Morbi, Rajkot, the ceramic capital of India. Technical considerations such as finishes, textures, printability, colourfastness, sizes, and industrial constraints informed the outcomes. Final deliverables included curated tile collections, tile carpets, pattern variations, usage recommendations, product photographs, and a comprehensive tile guidebook, offering value to both industry practice and academic inquiry.
