This project addresses the operational challenges faced by small and mid-market manufacturing businesses using QuickBooks for managing inventory and work order workflows. These businesses frequently rely on fragmented, manual processes to track raw materials and monitor job progress, leading to frequent delays, inventory mismatches, and inefficient communication. The objective was to design a capability for QuickBooks users that enables businesses to seamlessly plan, execute, and track work orders while maintaining accurate, real-time inventory records. The approach involved extensive user research, including stakeholder interviews and usability testing with real customers, to uncover current pain points and workflow breakdowns. Insights revealed a pressing need for better visibility into inventory movement and clearer handoffs between procurement and production departments. The final solution introduces a cohesive work order feature that supports job creation, material linking, and stock consumption tracking, providing a holistic solution aimed at improving day-to-day manufacturing productivity.
