"This project tackles systemic challenges in India’s reading culture, where high book abandonment and economic barriers hinder urban readers aged 18 to 35. Research involving interviews, surveys, focus groups, and stakeholder analysis revealed three core issues: completion guilt, economic anxiety, and discovery overwhelm. Emotional barriers, such as shame over unfinished books and choice paralysis, outweigh functional limitations, while cost prevents exploration. Current platforms neglect cultural reading contexts.
In response, the project introduces Bookzy, an integrated ecosystem leveraging AI powered, mood aware discovery, hyperlocal bookstore rentals, and NFC enabled guilt free progress tracking. This first of its kind physical digital integration addresses the completion paradox through celebration focused user experience, while supporting local bookstore sustainability.
Through strategic design, social innovation, and a focus on cultural transformation, the solution reduces reading anxiety and economic barriers, preserves traditional reading habits, and provides a replicable methodology for fostering India’s literary culture, demonstrating how thoughtful design can drive meaningful societal change."
