The project “Empowering Bamboo Technology Students through Innovation and Sustainable Design” was conducted at the Bamboo Research & Training Center (BRTC), Chichpalli, during a six-month internship. It aimed to enhance the Diploma in Bamboo Technology (DBT) by addressing pedagogical gaps, limited industry exposure, and outdated teaching methods. Students often trained as laborers lacked confidence, design thinking, and entrepreneurial skills. The project introduced a structured framework integrating hands-on innovation, skill development, prototyping, and market engagement. Workshops and collaborative projects fostered empowerment, ownership, and technical competence. By blending sustainable design principles with bamboo’s traditional knowledge, students, many from underprivileged backgrounds, were encouraged to envision themselves as future entrepreneurs and designers. Deliverables included teaching modules, process frameworks, and prototypes, creating a replicable pedagogy. Beyond immediate outcomes, the initiative positions BRTC as a hub for excellence, cultivating professionals who can drive the growth of Bamboo Technology while promoting sustainable practices, innovation, and entrepreneurial leadership.
