The River Is Close is a photographic inquiry into the precarious existence of communities along the Brahmaputra River in Assam’s Nagaon district. Focused on the Samaguri region, the project navigates the volatile embankments to document the lives of those historically displaced by environmental instability and political marginalization. Through a lens calibrated by the lived experiences of these residents, the work explores the profound "geo-psychological" transformation of the river’s shifting sandbanks. The narrative functions as a critical dialogue on the confluence of land loss, climate change, and identity alteration. By capturing the fragile boundary between the water and the inhabited shore, the project visualizes how the landscape’s constant flux dictates the social and internal realities of its people. The work serves as a poignant record of cultural resilience, illuminating the persistent struggle for dignity amidst a landscape defined by erosion and systemic neglect.
